Undenatured Whey Protein - Highly Beneficial And Essential For Your Body
Whey protein is basically protein that has been isolated from whey which is the liquid leftover after the solids have been removed from cow’s milk. This protein is found in the form of many different powders that can be added to milk or water or simply added to food items like cereal, oatmeal or pancakes. It is also available in the form of ready to drink shakes or beverages, nutrition bars, etc.
This whey protein has great benefits to muscle development and general nutrition. This type of protein is termed as ‘denatured’, which means that the protein has been processed at high temperatures of above 160 degrees Fahrenheit. This process is commonly known as pasteurization. All the microorganisms that are harmful are destroyed by this process.
Undenatured whey protein must be processed using a method that kills all the harmful organisms but the heat sensitive amino acids that make it bioactive – branched amino acids – are not harmed. Thus, it cannot be pasteurized. Lower temperatures must be used to preserve the amino acids. It can also be referred to as high biological value whey protein. It contains three very important proteins that are rich in amino acids and are missing from most of our diets - albumin or bovine serum albumin, lactoferrin, and lactalbumin.
These proteins are very high in an amino acid called bonded cysteine or cyctine. Cyctine is found in raw eggs, raw meat and raw cow’s milk but will be destroyed the minute these items are cooked. Breast milk is an important source of bonded cysteine available to babies. The difference between denatured whey protein and undenatured is similar to the difference between cooked and raw food. The biological benefits are just not the same. The absence of cyctine in our diets leads to deficiency of glutathione. Glutathione is produced in the human liver and is an important antioxidant that helps the body to boost its immune system, control free radicals and detoxicate the body. It is composed of three important amino acids – glutamic, cysteine and glycine. The body’s glutamic and glycine needs are usually met and it is cysteine that is lacking. Each cell in the body needs to produce its own glutathione and if this process fails the liver starts to accumulate toxins and the muscles and immune system are weakened. Undenatured whey protein has several vital nutritional benefits. It contains less than 1% of fat and lactose. It naturally contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). It is an important antioxidant, toxin eliminator, immune system booster and an overall body caretaker. It aids in building up the body’s glutathione levels. It is especially needed by the aging population to replenish the glutathione levels. Undenatured whey protein must be manufactured under pharmaceutical grade conditions and packaged in moisture free packets to seal the purity and freshness. The intake is recommended with water at room temperature for the best results. To be sure that you are not mislead, keep in mind that undenatured whey protein cannot be packed in a tub as the bioactivity is affected by exposure to heat, moisture or air. It cannot be flavored. Undenatured whey protein must be unflavored and is difficult to mix. It will float and resist mixing.
